Film Clamp Did Not Retract

Problem

  • The Film Clamp did not fully retract.

Look For

  • Blockage in the path

    1. Defective, loose cable

    2. Defective, loose proximity sensor

    3. Defective solenoid

    4. Blockage in the air line

Solution(s)

  • You can dissemble the guard casing with an Allen wrench 🔧 to check the cables, sensors, solenoid and airlines.

  • Make sure the load is not too close to the edge of the conveyor near the film clamper because it needs enough room to extend and retrieve itself. Move load further away from the clamp to ensure it may fully extend and retract without obstruction.

  • The wipe arm extends and retracts at full system pressure which should be in the 60-90PSI range. You might need to check the pressure valve under the film clamp. If pressure is too low or too high, open/close the valve to allow proper pressure to come through. There is a pressure switch that will give a "Low Air Pressure" alarm if the pressure drops below 60PSI. If the air cylinder shaft has been loosened and worn, there may be air-leaks and you need to replace the air cylinder.

  • The valves may need to be changed, there could be debris in airline or moisture in the airline could be gummed up.

  • The proximity switch might be broken or damaged and giving you false alarms

  • The yellow cover to the clamp could also be maladjusted to fit onto the proximity sensor (the home flag could be gone on it or the cover could be missing). Adjust this yellow cover to fit onto the proximity sensor properly.
